The Marceline and Emma yurts offer unique lodging, spectacular views, intimate contact with the land, and endless recreational opportunities. They are designed for summer and winter recreation. Please check current fire restrictions.
Located above the pristine Empire Reservoir at 12,000’, these yurts are nestled behind the Mosquito Mountain Range and Mt. Sherman. Climbing the ridge behind the yurts gives you spectacular views of Mt. Elbert, Mt. Massive and the Collegiate ranges. You can see elk, deer, bear, Redtail hawk, and sheep, as well as many other animals. In winter, bowl skiing is limitless!
According to the season, you may choose to hike, mountain bike, ski, snowshoe, horseback ride, hunt, view and photograph wildlife, paint the autumn colors, or enjoy the lazy pleasures of gazing at the natural beauty of the area and visiting with friends.
To provide a more isolated experience, we have limited the number of yurts in the area to two: the Emma Yurt and the Marceline Yurt. Each yurt sleeps five comfortably and is equipped with one double bed and three single bunk beds, a wood stove, firewood and an axe, a propane cooking stove, a propane light, table and chairs, basic cooking utensils and dishes.
The yurts are located in the backcountry and are not accessible to town or Ski Cooper. In winter, the yurts are not for very beginners as extreme winter conditions exist. The trek to the yurts are for the more experienced and fit that possess above backcountry ski skills and knowledge. No snowmobiles please. In summer, the yurts can be accessed with a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle as the road is very rough and steep in spots.
