Leadville National Fish Hatchery

LEADVILLE NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY

Watch fish swish at the Leadville National Fish Hatchery, built in 1889 and the nation’s second-oldest federal hatchery.

TOURS, TRAILS, AND PICNICS

For a close-up view of the fish production process, take a self-guided tour through this brownstone building, with tanks of fish inside and out. Tours are available by appointment to organized groups.

Walk the hatchery’s scenic one-mile nature trail or venture deeper into the mountains on a network of trails that pass lakes and streams, wind through pines, and lead into the Mt. Massive Wilderness.

For a picnic to remember, reserve the pavilion near the lake with views of Mt. Massive and bring a group of friends and family. Or enjoy the picnic tables and playground on the hatchery’s front lawn.
